Big-Steve Messineo & The Candy Snatchers: The Gates Are Open!

Big-Steve Messineo has been busy lately, and is seizing the times with a show at the Virginia Beach waterfront no one will want to miss! Although Big-Steve is a fun, yet very easygoing guy, he stops at nothing to deliver great shows with BOSPRODUCTIONS for the past 20 years in the Hampton Roads area. Something I noticed about Steve’s determination, he indeed makes sure that if his name or booking company’s stamp-of-approval is on a show, it better be a damn good line-up. And no-doubt he’s delivering the rock ‘n’ roll goods to us after a year and half of no live shows due to the Covid pandemic. Let’s face it, it’s only healthy for the mind, body and soul to have face-to-face interactions with other people and live music right in front of us physically, and Steve knows this! I think that is why he’s going out with a real bang. And with that being said, folks… the fuckin’ Candy Snatchers return! Let’s see if Big-Steve opens up with some details about this upcoming show on July 17th at the Bunker Brewpub. Although, despite he and I insulting each other back and forth while discussing the show, we managed to get an understanding where the other is coming from. Ok, scroll down and read interview below.

Unger: Alright Steve, I’m going to be a brutally honest asshole during this interview so let’s cut the shit and get down to it shall we?  Why this show? Andddd why now?

Steve: Well Paul, if you’ve been living under a rock which I’m sure your bitch-ass has for last year and a half we haven’t exactly had a good punk show down at the oceanfront because of COVID-19. Now, the stars are aligned for the Candy Snatchers to play the very first show. Not to mention, this will also be the first BOSPRODUCTIONS show of the year and many more to come. Simply put, it’s time to rejoice with pure energy rock ‘n’ roll, the pandemic is over, we won. The time is now Virginia Beach!

Unger: You’ve got a special surprise for us of sorts?  Tell us, what did you do to push the anticipation over the cliff for this show?

Steve:  ‘Yes’ there is a special surprise. Hans Molnar, from such bands as the Hellbenders, the Ringleaders and the Humpers, will be playing guitar for the Snatchers. I think it’s appropriate that this is happening because the late great Matt Odietus, who we all know and miss very much, Hans is and always will be Matt’s favorite guitar player. So, that will make this show much more special.

Unger: Besides the Snatchers, who never disappoint, tell us a little about the openers, Fujiwara and Old Scars.  Should we get our asses there early, why?

Steve: Well, just like I was telling your Mom last night ol’ pal, the openers for the show will be Fujiwara, the legendary Outer Banks punk band and OGVB Skate punks Old Scars will be opening up as well.

Unger: That’s oddly funny because I expect to leave with your mom at this show, I told her I’d think about it though. Ok, moving on, let’s talk about the Bunker, good size place? Sound system?

Steve: ‘Yes’ the Bunker, if you must know Paul, has a capacity of 450 people with a newer sound system that includes RCF speakers. Midas M32 board which is one of the best systems at the oceanfront. Let’s just say, it’s enough to blow your mom’s tits off. Ok?

Unger: Anything you’d like to mention? Shameless plug of sorts? Other BOSPRODUCTIONS upcoming gigs? Maybe say ‘hello’ to your barfly mother sitting here next to me as I ask you this?

Steve: You just can’t seem to get off mothers can you? All is fair though since I’m getting off on your mom right now. Anyway, enough of that, ‘yes’ I would like to mention, that not only we have this July 17th gig coming up, we also have another BOSPRODUCTIONS event, ASG, Fujiwara and the long-awaited reunion of the Wet Boys, the original lineup! This show will be taking place at the Seaside Raw-Bar, Saturday night, Sept. 18th of this year.

Video below: Let’s go back almost 20 years ago with this video that just surfaced recently: The Candy Snatchers live in Toronto, Canada, 2003. Filmed by Aldo Erdic, Punks and Rockers, this also includes the full show and a never-before-seen interview with Matt Odietus, which is a real ‘find’ within itself. Enjoy!
