Lydia Lunch's "Verbal Burlesque" and Wandcarver

Charlie's American Cafe

4024 Granby St, Norfolk, Virginia 23504

From the original Facebook Event:

VERBAL BURLESQUE combines the dynamic spoken word histrionics of Lydia Lunch, one of the genres most controversial performers with the improvisational virtuosity of Tim Dahl to create an intimate evening of musical verite.

Lydia Lunch is passionate, confrontational and bold. Whether attacking the patriarchy and their pornographic war mongering, turning the sexual into the political or whispering a love song to the broken hearted, her fierce energy and rapid fire delivery lend testament to her warrior nature. Queen of No Wave, muse of The Cinema of Transgression, writer, musician, poet, spoken word artist and photographer, she has released too many musical projects to tally, has been on tour for decades, working with such luminaries as Nick Cave, Sonic Youth, Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Karen Finley, Jerry Stahl, The Last Poets, and Hubert Selby JR. Lunch has published dozens of articles, half a dozen books (translated into 9 languages), appeared in numerous documentaries, conducted workshops, taught at Universities including The San Francisco Art Institute and simply refuses to just shut up.

Tim Dahl is a composer and professional electric and double bass player, vocalist, keyboardist and composer living in New York City. He is best known as the front man and bass player of the alt-jazz group Grid and the defunct avant-jazz group The Hub. He also writes and performs for the jazz ensemble Pulverize The Sound, featuring renowned saxophonist Peter Evans. Dahl has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe and Japan, and performed with many notable musicians, composers and performers including Yusef Lateef, Archie Shepp, Eugene Chadbourne, John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Elliot Sharpe, Tatsuya Yoshida and Stanley Jordan. Most recently he has performed with LYDIA LUNCH'S RETROVIRUS for the past five years, touring Europe, Australia, South America and The United States. Many of you were fortunate enough to see Tim and Lydia blow the roof of of Charlie's last October.

To begin this evening is the return of WANDCARVER, who haven't played locally since summer. Don't miss what is sure to be an especially sickening ritual from them on this most special of evenings.

Tickets available from Anthems of The Undesirable and at Skinnie's starting next week. $10 in advance, $12 day of show.
